"The Wheel of Time" was recently canceled after three seasons! But couldn't another broadcaster or streaming service step in and pick up the series? Many fans are currently hoping for this – but unfortunately, it seems to be in vain.

"The Wheel of Time" will not be getting a fourth season on Amazon Prime Video. This has been certain since May 23, 2025. But even though there was no talk at the time that the fantasy series would be offered to other broadcasters or streaming services, fans haven't given up on "The Wheel of Time" (the original title) and are currently trying, among other things, with a campaign called "Save WOT" (i.e., "Save The Wheel of Time") to persuade Amazon and the other people responsible for the series to rethink their approach. But do they even have a chance of success?
In the past, there have been several series that were continued or saved after vocal fan campaigns. Amazon itself, for example, once saved the excellent science fiction series "The Expanse" from cancellation and brought it to a (temporary?) end with three additional seasons, for which the author of these lines, as a big fan, is personally very grateful. But what about "The Wheel of Time," where Amazon itself is the provider canceling the series?
No more chance for "The Wheel of Time"
The "Save WOT" campaign has currently (as of June 6, 2025, 3 p.m.) already collected over 130,000 signatures. But as the industry magazine TVLine, which specializes in series and television, writes, even that is likely in vain: "The Wheel of Time" will not be offered to any other streaming services or broadcasters after the series was canceled on Amazon Prime Video, according to a Q&A article.
TVLine does not provide any reasons for this. However, it could be, for example, that Amazon holds the exclusive rights to a "Wheel of Time" series, meaning another provider cannot simply step in. The six different production companies involved could also make things difficult, if not impossible. Perhaps those responsible also know that there is simply not enough interest in their title at the moment. After all, the series landscape has changed considerably in the few years since "The Wheel of Time" was announced in 2017.
In contrast to the years before the coronavirus pandemic, almost all streaming services and TV broadcasters are now pursuing significant cost-cutting measures, which is why investments are being more closely scrutinized. And "The Wheel of Time," although the series has improved in quality from season to season, was never a truly big success and was not well-received by all audiences. For example, many fans of the books had their problems with the changes in the series adaptation.
