A full 22 years have passed since "Freaky Friday" hit theaters. Mark Waters' comedy was about Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her 15-year-old daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) swapping bodies. This not only led to plenty of amusing situational comedy, but also, of course, many heartfelt moments.
The film, a remake of the 1976 original of the same name, not only performed massively at the box office, grossing more than seven times its $20 million budget. The family-friendly body-swapping comedy has also achieved cult status over the years. Will the sequel, "Freakier Friday," for which a first trailer has finally been released, also reach this level after all these years?
We'll find out soon: "Freakier Friday" will be released in cinemas on August 7, 2025.
What "Freaky Friday 2" is about
Just like in the first film, Jamie Lee Curtis and Linday Lohan are also in the cast of the sequel. Anna is now an adult and has a daughter of her own named Harper (Julia Butters). She plans to marry her fiancé Eric (Manny Jacinto) soon. But not everyone is happy for the couple's marital bliss. Harper and Eric's daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons), who is the same age, can't stand each other.
Through a magical coincidence, Harper and Anna aren't the only ones to swap bodies. "Freakier Friday" takes the body-swapping spectacle to a whole new level: Tess gets caught up in the mess and swaps bodies with Lily! And as if that wasn't enough chaos, Jake (Chad Michael Murray), Anna's high school crush, reappears...
