With the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the highly anticipated animated sequel to the adventures of Miles Morales and Company, we prepare to meet countless new incarnations of the iconic Marvel Wallcrawler from various universes.
The animated film by Sony is further proof of how Spider-Man is now among the most transversal characters in pop culture, successfully managing to extricate himself both through the world of animation and live-action. These are certainly intense days for fans of the character and, in the last few hours, it was Tom Holland, acclaimed interpreter and official face of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who confirmed an important investiture.
The British actor has in fact unveiled his all-time favorite film dedicated to the character and, totally surprisingly, it is not one of those that have seen him involved firsthand. In this regard, Holland has in fact declared:
I think the first Spider-Verse movie is the best Spider-Man movie ever made. I am so proud of everyone involved. Amy Pascal is like my mother. I had to go with her as her escort. I couldn't go because I'm here working, but I'm incredibly proud of them. I'm excited about the sequel. I'm sure it will live up to every expectation, and I can't wait to see it.
If on the animated front things seem destined to go swimmingly, some uncertainty seems to be gathering on the future of the live-action incarnation of the character.
In recent months, Marvel Studios has announced its intention to create a new trilogy dedicated to the character of Tom Holland, who should return to the role with the project unofficially called Spider-Man 4. This initiative - although still in its initial stages of development – would however be encountering some difficulties due to the well-known writers' strike which forced many Hollywood projects to be suspended.
Although this initiative is supported both by the actor and by the studios involved in the project, its possible impact on the programming of the various production aspects remains undeniable. At the moment, it's also unclear whether this new film series will be an integral part of the MCU - as seemed obvious until recently - or if it will somehow mark the debut of Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Sony's Spider-Man. Universe.
